In this video we are going to look at the ESEE 6 and compare it to the newer ESEE 6HM. I’ve always liked the ESEE 6 from a distance but now I’ve gotten my hands one them and yes – one wins. Check out the video to see why I chose the ESEE 6 over the ESEE 6HM.

  1. The ESEE6 HM looks like the DC that didn’t seem to work out. I remember seeing that handle last year and liked the simple smooth shape.

  2. Nice comparison vid. I have the 6 with TKC g10 scales and it’s my favorite knife by far. The TKC handle scales eliminate the blockiness of the stock ESEE micarta scales and fill your hand better for a more comfortable grip. I like having the big choil on the six as well. I also have the four and would probably have gotten the hm version of the four if it had been available at the time as I find the handles on the standard 4 to be a little thin and short for extended use and the choil is too small for my finger. I do like the way the standard 4 carries though so I haven’t upgraded the handles with the TKC extended scales.

  3. I got my ESEE 6 a couple years ago direct from ESEE, $108.00 with the sheath shipped to me. It’s got the old style scales that are actually bigger than the ones in this video, I have big hands so it works great for me but I can see how some one with small hands/fingers would like the HM better. Maybe the best 6″ fixed blade in it’s class/price range but I’m not an expert on blades I just know from owning one that it’s very good.

Also I’d like to add that this is a good example of how you can get very good gear for reasonable money.

    Have you tried Benchmade’s Backpacker?

  4. love mine. I carry the standard esee 6 with a sheath pouch and a fire steel on the pouch with a small fishing kit on the inside.. also replaced the standard lanyard on the knife and fire steel with 550 firecord.

  5. The HM design IMHO is really best for a 3-4 inch blade, once you get a longer blade you definitely need that handle on the 6. HM is 100% a bushcraft shape which if it were me I would like it in a full convex grind, just makes more sense.
