  1. I was not expecting it, but today Massdrop just announced a new drop for the CRKT Freyr Outdoor Axe, in 1055 steel, with a passivation treatment for corrosion resistance, which looks really interesting @ $54.99 + shipping, so $62.74 delivered.

    Here’s the link:

The CRKT Freyr looks a lot beefier than the Cold Steel Hatchet/Axe 2009351 Gang Hatchet 90Axg (Axchet) that you just reviewed, albeit a little more expensive.

Of course one thing led to another and I also found the CRKT Freyr on Amazon for basically the same price of $66.40…

I also found the Cold Steel CS90TA-BRK Trail Boss Axe for $23.99 which also looks better than the Cold Steel Hatchet/Axe 2009351 Gang Hatchet 90Axg (Axchet) that you just reviewed.

I also discovered that CRKT also makes the CRKT Pack Axe Camping Hatchet from 1060 steel for $52.89 on Amazon…

Finally, the (CRKT) Columbia River Knife and Tool 2745 Birler Compact Pack Axe, made from 1055 steel @ $56.93 looks real good too, and maybe is the best in the group.

If I only had $25 to spend, I would probably go for the Cold Steel Trail Boss, over the Cold Steel Hatchet/Axe 2009351 Gang Hatchet 90Axg (Axchet) that you just reviewed, as it just looks beefier and like it would perform better.

However, I think that for $25 more, everyone would be better served to select one of the CRKT hatchets or axes that I just mentioned.

Hey, now you have more budget axes/hatchets (Axchets) to review, and I would love to see you and WIll perform a comparison, and you could throw in a few of the Council Tools axes that are in the $50 price range too.

Let me know what you think.

  2. Chris “the knife guy” lol, do you really think the SRK is a better budget knife than the Terävä Jääkäripuukko ? Thanks

    1. Thanks for the reply. Shipping from Finland to Canada takes 10 days (I’ve order tons of stuff from Varusteleka) whereas Amazon is 2-3days so yes easier to get for sure. Again thanks for the reply.

    2. I’d probably use the puuko. But as I CLEARLY said, the qualifier is “stuff I have” and I gave that to a friend. The SRK is easier to get too. They are also very different so it’s going to depend on personal preference.

  3. I got a cold steel tomahawk I bout on amazon for 25 bucks, its like weight and fits in by bag easily. love it, got a Winchester gut hook I got from wally world for 15 bucks, it works great
